About & Contact
Jo-hanna, the owner of JoHenna Design and commonly known as Joey, is best known for her intricate henna designs, paintings and drawings. She has lived in Indianapolis most of her life and is a self-taught artist. Joey enjoys creating complex designs in many different mediums including: henna art, pen and ink drawings, acrylic paintings, watercolor paintings as well as decorating pillows, mugs, bags, shoes, etc.
Her love of henna art began when Joey was a young girl. Bonnie, Joey's mother, was very interested in the Indian culture and attended many events where a henna artist was hard at work. Joey had her very first henna tattoo at just 6 years old. Over the years, Joey's love for and passion for henna grew. During Joey's junior year of college, she began her journey as a henna tattoo artist. First, she only practiced on herself, but eventually she worked on her skill for her family, friends, and anyone who would let her. Joey took a basic art class her junior year which really inspired her to create artwork because she fell in love with the process.
Joey is fascinated by learning about the symbolism and meaning behind both henna and ink tattoos and spends a lot of time studying the different traditions and practices. Creating unique, meaningful and connective experiences for her clients is something she’s very passionate about and she would love to meet and work with you in this way.
In March 2019, Joey became a full-time artist and she couldn't be more thrilled to be able to do what she loves full-time. If you are interested in connecting with Joey, please fill out the form below.
